Reblog if you remember the first time you picked up a Harry Potter book.
I was six and an avid reader, my mom would bring home discarded text books from her work as a high school teacher for me to read. She knew that I was deeply fascinated by the occult and witches so she bought me the second Harry Potter book. I vividly remember in the first chapter they kept referencing past events as though the reader knew what they were and I told me mom she had to buy the first book before I could read the one I currently owned. I read number 1 in about a week.
i was nine and had finally managed to make friends at yet another new school. sarah and meena were horrified to hear that i had heard of harry potter but never read it. pastor mom told me the series was gross and bad and was making people think they were wizards.
i promptly checked out the book from the school library, managed to get a few chapters in during silent reading time, and finished it that night under the covers with a flashlight because i didn’t want my mom to know i had it.
she was right about the books. i’m like eighty percent sure i’m a wizard.
